María: Are you going to your parents' house this weekend?
Andrew: Yes, on Sunday. My sister is bringing the kids, and we're all having lunch together.
María: ¿Tienes sobrinos?
María: Do you have nieces or nephews?
Andrew: Dos.
Andrew: Two. One is five, and the other just turned eight.
María: Then the house must get pretty noisy.
Andrew: Very. My dad says he ends up more tired than they do.
María: ¿Tus papás viven cerca?
María: Do your parents live nearby?
Andrew: Como a cuarenta minutos.
Andrew: About forty minutes away. I used to see them less, but since I work from home, I go more often.
María: That's nice. I hardly see my brother because he lives in another city.
Andrew: ¿Está muy lejos?
Andrew: Is he far away?
María: About four hours by car. We talk a lot, but it's not the same.
Andrew: Sí, claro. ¿Y tus papás?
Andrew: Yeah, of course. What about your parents?
María: They do live here. My mom calls me almost every day.
Andrew: ¿Casi todos los días?
Andrew: Almost every day?
If I don't answer, she texts me later to ask if everything is okay.
Andrew: Eso suena muy a mamá.
Andrew: That sounds very mom-like.
Sometimes it gets on my nerves a little, but I also like knowing she's checking in on me.
Andrew: My mom is the same, except she sends pictures of whatever she's cooking.
María: That's worse, because then you get hungry.
Andrew: Exacto. Y termina diciéndome: «Ven, hice demasiado».
Andrew: Exactly. And she ends up saying, 'Come over, I made too much.'
María: Bueno, esa parte no suena nada mal.
María: Well, that part doesn't sound bad at all.
Andrew: No, la verdad es que no.
Andrew: No, honestly, it doesn't.
