C1 Project: Produce a Spanish Research Brief, Lead a Discussion, and Revise Your Conclusions

This C1 project integrates source synthesis, professional writing, discussion leadership, objection tracking, and evidence-based revision. You will produce a research brief from multiple sources, lead a discussion of its conclusion, record substantive objections, and revise the conclusion when the discussion reveals a real evidential weakness.

Project question

— Should a company maintain two remote-work days per week as a general policy?

Source A: productivity records

— For eight weeks, average team productivity remained within 3% of the fully in-person period.

The source does not show a major average productivity loss during the observed period.

Source B: employee survey

— Seventy-two percent of 420 surveyed people stated that two remote-work days improved their ability to concentrate on individual tasks.

The survey records reported experience, not experimentally measured productivity.

Source C: project coordination

— Projects involving more than four teams recorded a 14% increase in the average time needed to close interdepartmental decisions.

This suggests a coordination cost in more complex projects.

Initial synthesis

— The available data do not show a major loss in average productivity, and most surveyed people value individual concentration positively. However, projects with greater interdepartmental complexity show an increase in coordination time.

Initial conclusion

— I would recommend maintaining two remote-work days as a general policy, with adjustments for projects requiring intensive interdepartmental coordination.

Write the research brief

Your brief should include:

  1. the research question
  2. the source set and what each source measures
  3. areas of agreement and tension across sources
  4. an initial recommendation
  5. limits that matter to the recommendation

Lead the discussion

Opening:

— My provisional conclusion is to maintain two remote days, but I want to check whether we are interpreting the coordination problem correctly.

This invites challenge rather than presenting the recommendation as closed.

Substantive objection 1

Participant A:

— The 14% figure groups together very different projects. Do we know whether the delay appears in all of them or only in some types of project?

This objection questions scope and heterogeneity.

Record the objection accurately

Nota:

— The 14% average may hide important differences among project types.

Substantive objection 2

Participant B:

— The productivity comparison covers only eight weeks. We do not know whether the effect persists during high-load periods or longer projects.

This objection limits temporal generalization.

Do not defend the original wording automatically

Weak defense:

— But the data already prove that the policy works.

Better response:

— Agreed. The data allow a provisional conclusion about the observed period, but not a stable claim for all working conditions.

Re-examine the evidence

Question:

— Which part of my conclusion remains well supported, and which part needs an additional condition?

Supported:

— No major loss of average productivity is observed during the eight weeks analyzed.

Needs qualification:

— The policy works as a general rule in every type of project.

Revised conclusion

— I would recommend provisionally maintaining two remote-work days during a second evaluation period. The policy should allow project-level adjustments, especially when many teams are involved, and the company should analyze high-load periods separately before turning the measure into a permanent rule.

Explain why the position changed

— The revision is not because the initial evidence was false, but because the discussion showed that the coordination average and the eight-week period did not justify such a broad generalization.

Project evidence log

Keep three columns in your notes:

afirmación — claim.

fuente que la apoya — source supporting it.

objeción o límite — objection or limit.

Leadership criteria

During discussion:

  • invite disagreement explicitly
  • separate factual objections from preferences
  • restate an objection before answering it
  • keep unresolved questions visible
  • change the conclusion only for a stated evidential reason

Final deliverables

  1. a Spanish research brief
  2. a five-minute oral summary
  3. a discussion record with at least two substantive objections
  4. a revised conclusion
  5. a short explanation of why the conclusion changed or why it remained stable

Project quality criteria

  1. Every major factual claim can be traced to one of the provided sources.
  2. The brief synthesizes rather than lists sources mechanically.
  3. The discussion leader responds to objections rather than merely repeating the brief.
  4. Scope and certainty remain stable unless new reasoning justifies revision.
  5. The final conclusion reflects what was learned during discussion.
  6. Any change of position is explained with evidence, not with social pressure alone.
