Speaking Task: Agree on a Time, Place, and Backup Plan in Spanish

This lesson is a speaking task. You will use invitation and planning language to agree on three things: when to meet, where to meet, and what to do if the first plan does not work.

Step 1: propose an activity

  • ¿Quieres ir al parque? — Do you want to go to the park?
  • ¿Quieres comer en un restaurante? — Do you want to eat in a restaurant?
  • ¿Quieres estudiar conmigo? — Do you want to study with me?

Step 2: propose a day

  • ¿El sábado? — Saturday?
  • ¿El domingo? — Sunday?
  • ¿El martes? — Tuesday?

Step 3: propose a time

  • ¿A las cuatro? — At four?
  • ¿A las seis? — At six?
  • ¿A las ocho? — At eight?

Step 4: propose a place

  • ¿En el parque? — In the park?
  • ¿En el restaurante? — In the restaurant?
  • ¿En la estación? — At the station?

Accepting details

  • Sí, perfecto. — Yes, perfect.
  • Sí, claro. — Yes, of course.
  • Está bien. — That is fine.

Rejecting one detail

  • No puedo a las cuatro. — I cannot at four.
  • No puedo el sábado. — I cannot on Saturday.

Offering another option

  • ¿Y a las seis? — What about six?
  • ¿Y el domingo? — What about Sunday?
  • ¿Y en el restaurante? — What about the restaurant?

Agreeing on the main plan

Si llueve, vamos al restaurante. — If it rains, we go to the restaurant.

For this lesson, learn si llueve — if it rains as a practical planning chunk.
