Comparing Spanish Accommodation Listings and Guest Reviews

Comparing Spanish Accommodation Listings and Guest Reviews

In this reading lesson, you will compare accommodation listings by location, facilities, price, and stated conditions. You will also distinguish what the host or listing claims from what an individual guest reports in a review.

Listing information and review information are different sources

A listing normally states the accommodation's advertised features and rules. A guest review describes one person's experience.

Accommodation A: listing

Read:

— Centro Hotel. Double room: 85 euros per night. It is five minutes from the station. It has Wi-Fi and breakfast. It does not have parking. Free cancellation until two days before.

Accommodation B: listing

Read:

— Plaza Apartment. 70 euros per night. It is twenty minutes from the station. It has a kitchen and parking. It does not include breakfast. Free cancellation until five days before.

Compare location

  • — Centro Hotel is closer to the station.
  • — Plaza Apartment is farther from the station.

For this lesson, — farther away is useful accommodation vocabulary.

Compare price

  • — Plaza Apartment is cheaper.
  • — Centro Hotel costs fifteen euros more per night.

Compare facilities

  • — Centro Hotel includes breakfast.
  • — Plaza Apartment has a kitchen and parking.

Compare stated conditions

The cancellation conditions differ.

  • — Centro Hotel allows free cancellation until two days before.
  • — Plaza Apartment allows free cancellation until five days before.

Do not treat these conditions as identical simply because both listings say — free cancellation.

Guest review A

Read:

— The room was clean and the staff was friendly. At night there was quite a lot of noise in the street.

This is one guest's reported experience. It is not the same as an official description from the host.

Guest review B

Read:

— The apartment was comfortable and the kitchen had everything necessary. The bus downtown took quite a while.

For this lesson, — took quite a while is a useful review phrase.

Do not generalize one review into a universal fact

If one guest says — there was quite a lot of noise, you can report that this guest experienced noise. You cannot conclude from one review alone that the hotel is always noisy.

Match the accommodation to the traveler's needs

Traveler 1 needs to be close to the station and wants breakfast.

— For this person, Centro Hotel seems better because it is closer and has breakfast.

For this lesson, — seems better is a cautious comparison phrase.

Another traveler has different needs

Traveler 2 has a car, wants a kitchen, and prefers a lower price.

— For this person, Plaza Apartment seems better because it has parking, has a kitchen, and is cheaper.

Review information can change the decision without replacing the listing

A traveler who sleeps lightly may consider the guest's noise comment important. Another traveler may care more about station access.

Use both the advertised facts and the guest experience, but keep their sources separate.

Reading comparison task

Question: — Which one is cheaper?

Answer: — Plaza Apartment is cheaper.

Question: — Which one is closer to the station?

Answer: — Centro Hotel is closer.

A practical accommodation-comparison method

  1. Extract location, facilities, price, and conditions from each listing.
  2. Keep advertised facts separate from guest-review experience.
  3. Compare the options with the structures you already know.
  4. Match the comparison to the traveler's actual needs.
  5. Treat one review as one piece of evidence rather than a universal truth.
  6. Choose the accommodation whose supported features best fit the stated priorities.

From Accommodation Reviews to Lost Property

You can now compare accommodation options using both listing facts and guest experiences without mixing their sources. The next lesson teaches you how to report lost property and explain where you last had it.
