Speaking Task: Compare Service Options and Resolve a Billing Error in Spanish
This speaking task has two stages. First compare two service options from the information given. Then focus on one explicit billing difference, ask for a review, understand the employee's explanation or correction, and confirm the result.
Service options
Option A:
Servicio básico: 25 euros. Espera de treinta minutos. Incluye revisión. — Basic service: 25 euros. Thirty-minute wait. Includes inspection.
Option B:
Servicio completo: 40 euros. Sin espera. Incluye revisión y limpieza. — Complete service: 40 euros. No wait. Includes inspection and cleaning.
Compare the options
- La opción A es más barata. — Option A is cheaper.
- La opción B cuesta quince euros más. — Option B costs fifteen euros more.
- La opción B no tiene espera. — Option B has no wait.
- La opción B incluye limpieza. — Option B includes cleaning.
Choose one option
— I prefer option A because I need to pay less.
Or:
— I prefer option B because I do not want to wait.
Now focus on one billing difference
Suppose you selected Option A at 25 euros, but the receipt shows:
Servicio básico: 30 euros. — Basic service: 30 euros.
The known difference is five euros.
State the discrepancy precisely
— I chose the 25-euro basic service, but the bill shows 30 euros.
— There is a five-euro difference.
Ask for review, not an open argument
- ¿Puede revisar este cargo, por favor? — Can you review this charge, please?
- ¿Puede explicar la diferencia? — Can you explain the difference?
- Quiero confirmar el precio del servicio básico. — I want to confirm the price of the basic service.
Employee explanation: correction
Person B: Sí, tiene razón. El precio correcto es 25 euros. Vamos a corregir la factura. — Yes, you are right. The correct price is 25 euros. We are going to correct the bill.
Confirm the correction
— So, the correct total is 25 euros.
Person B: Sí. — Yes.
Alternative employee explanation
If the employee says:
Los cinco euros son un cargo de limpieza que aparece en la factura. — The five euros are a cleaning charge that appears on the bill.
You should verify whether that charge belongs to the service you actually selected rather than assuming it is correct or incorrect.
Ask:
— Was cleaning included in the basic service?
Repeat numbers when necessary
Person A: ¿Ha dicho veinticinco o treinta? — Did you say twenty-five or thirty?
Person B: Veinticinco. — Twenty-five.
Do not broaden the dispute
This task succeeds when you identify one known billing difference and understand its routine correction or explanation. You do not need to negotiate compensation, argue about broader policy, or manage an ongoing financial dispute.
