Writing a Spanish Complaint About a Hotel or Journey

Writing a Spanish Complaint About a Hotel or Journey

In this lesson, you will write a short, actionable travel complaint about one clear problem. Organize the message around the booking details, what happened, the effect on you, the problem that remains now, and the direct solution you are requesting.

Start with the booking details

  • — My booking number is 5831.
  • — The booking was for two nights, from June 14 to June 16.
  • — My flight was number 482 to Madrid.

State one clear incident in the past

  • — When I arrived, the room was not available.
  • — The flight was canceled.
  • — My suitcase arrived one day late.

Use the past to report what happened.

State the direct effect

  • — I had to wait two hours.
  • — I could not use the room that night.
  • — I missed my connection to Valencia.

For this lesson, — I had to is a useful completed-obligation phrase.

Use the present for a problem that still remains

  • — The booking still appears as active.
  • — I still do not have the refund.
  • — My luggage is still not here.

Request one direct solution

  • — I want to change the booking, please.
  • — I want a refund, please.
  • — Can you confirm the new date, please?

Give a reason when it helps the request

— I could not use the room, so I want a refund.

For this lesson, — therefore / that is why is a useful complaint connector.

Keep facts separate from opinions

Actionable fact:

— The room was not available when I arrived.

Vague complaint:

— Everything was terrible.

The first sentence gives a concrete problem the recipient can investigate. The second may express frustration but does not identify a specific issue.

Model hotel complaint

— Good morning. My booking number is 5831. The booking was for two nights, from June 14 to June 16. When I arrived on the 14th, the room was not available and I had to wait two hours. I still do not have an explanation. I want a refund for the first night, please. Thank you.

Model journey complaint

— Hello. My flight was 482 to Madrid. The flight was canceled and I missed my connection to Valencia. I bought another ticket to continue the journey. I want information about the refund for the canceled ticket, please. Thank you.

Do not turn the message into a legal argument

At this level, state the known booking details, the incident, its practical effect, and the direct solution requested. Do not invent legal rights, compensation rules, or policy language that the situation has not provided.

Do not add multiple unrelated complaints

If the problem is a canceled flight, keep the message centered on that incident. A short complaint is easier to act on when it has one main issue and one clear request.

Writing checklist

  1. Identify the booking or journey.
  2. State one clear event in the past.
  3. State the practical effect.
  4. Use the present for a problem that still remains.
  5. Request one direct solution politely.
  6. Use clear facts rather than a long emotional argument.
  7. Do not invent rights, policies, or events that you cannot support.

From a Written Complaint to a Canceled-Connection Mission

You can now write a short travel complaint that gives the recipient enough information to act. The next lesson is an integrated travel mission where you recover from a canceled connection by comparing limited alternatives.
