Speaking Task: Explain How a Service Works and Resolve a Misunderstanding in Spanish

In this speaking task, you will explain a service in clear steps, identify conditions and roles, notice one misunderstanding, correct it, and confirm that the other person now understands the procedure.

Service scenario: parcel collection

The service works like this:

— A notification is received when the parcel arrives.
  • Se recoge el paquete en recepción. — The parcel is collected at reception.
  • Se pide identificación para entregarlo. — Identification is requested in order to hand it over.
  • Los paquetes se guardan durante siete días. — Parcels are stored for seven days.

Explain the steps in order

— First, a notification is received. Afterward, the person goes to reception with their identification. There the name is checked and the parcel is handed over.

Explain the condition

— To collect the parcel, it is necessary to present an identity document.

Explain the role of the service worker

— Reception staff check the name and hand over the parcel.

Explain the role of the customer

— The customer has to present identification and confirm receipt.

Misunderstanding

Customer:

— So, do you send the parcel to my home after I receive the notification?

Service worker:

No exactamente. — Not exactly. The notification only informs you that the parcel is already here. You have to come to reception to collect it.

Identify the exact point of confusion

The customer confused notification with home delivery. Correct only that step rather than repeating the entire explanation immediately.

Confirm understanding

Service worker:

— So, to confirm: what do you have to do when you receive the notification?

Customer:

— I have to go to reception with my identification and collect the parcel there.

Service worker:

Exacto. — Exactly.

Another misunderstanding: storage time

Customer:

¿Puedo recogerlo dentro de dos semanas? — Can I collect it in two weeks?

Service worker:

— No. Parcels are stored for seven days. After that period, you have to check with reception.

The worker states the known service rule and does not invent what happens after seven days.

Use pronouns only when the reference is clear

Clear:

— The notification is received and afterward the parcel is collected.

If several objects are active, repeat the noun instead of using an ambiguous lo or la.

  1. three or four ordered steps
  2. one service condition
  3. the customer's responsibility
  4. the service provider's responsibility
  5. one misunderstanding
